About
Pop Up Ads
Have
you ever had the feeling that your computer might be possessed?
Why? Because it seems that every time you start a browsing
session, extra windows either pop up, obscuring what you're
trying to look at or sneakily slip under your open window
waiting to be discovered later.
What's
worse, these unwanted windows can range from the merely annoying
to the downright offensive. They slow down your work, cause
distraction, and on occasion, when dozens of windows suddenly
begin exploding across your screen, can caused your system
to freeze completely.
Advertisers
hope people will visit the promoted web page by clicking anywhere
on the window, although many simply close it by selecting
the "X" box in the top-right corner. But
a relatively new feature may make it harder for people to
avoid these windows. Using a technique called the "kick
through," advertisers can direct a person to another
web site if they simply move their cursor across the pop up
ad - no clicking is necessary.
Lets
face it, pop up ads can ruin your web browsing experience
and it seems they are only getting worse. Thankfully these
annoying products of the online advertising slump can be eliminated
using a number of methods, including free, third-party software
such as Adblock that deflects unwanted browser
windows.
While
experts say there has not been a pronounced surge in downloads
of pop up blocking software, programs such as AdBlock
are readily available online and have garnered a significant
user base. After all, although anti pop up activity may frustrate
marketers seeking to reach consumers at any cost, AdBlock
freeware puts control of the web browsing experience back
in users' hands where it belongs.
